Women/Children Ministries Coordinator
Christine Haymon
Hi! I’m Christine Haymon/Sunshine the clown. I was born in Red Ash, Virginia to William Druary and Gracie Byrd. My family attended a small country, Church of God church in Seaboard, Virginia when I was six. It was in that year that I found Jesus as my Savior. I went to the Richlands High School through the tenth grade. I was president of my tenth grade class. We moved to Michigan in the early sixties. It was in Michigan that I finished my schooling. I excelled in the business curriculum. The school set up a job for me in a firm after graduation. I went for the interview, and was hired. I attended the Detroit Tabernacle Church of God under Senior Pastor, Rev. Paul Stallings. My husband came to Michigan on vacation in July of 1967 and attended my church. We were introduced that day. Three years later, we married and left for Alabama to the evangelistic field. We evangelized for several years and we have pastored three churches, over one year in Florence, five wonderful years at Chelsea, and 24 years at Rainsville.
I am a lady of many faces. I love clowning, designing costumes, flowers, landscaping, decorating, mothering my little grandchildren, etc.
We have been at the Rainsville Church of God for twenty four years as of June, 2007. I am the pastor’s wife, district pastor’s wife, mother of three- one son and two lovely daughters, grandmother of six grandsons, and wife to a wonderful, kind, and loving husband. I have served as a teacher in all age groups, 15 and under through-out the years. I am Junior Sunday School Superintendent. I was appointed ministries coordinator many years ago by the pastor. My calling in this area consisted of children’s ministries training seminars, puppet-making, clowning, clown director, decorator, office secretary, back-ground checks, training of personnel, promoting and training of women’s ministries programs, etc. My favorite things to do are shopping, decorating and designing outside landscaping.
I have assisted my husband in his areas of appointment. We have had a very active district for many years. His appointments to state boards for years have entitled me to serve in certain areas. I served approximately eight years on the State Girls Club Advisory Board and four years on the State Women’s Ministries Board. I was very active in the Lee College Extension Studies until I was involved in a bad car accident in 1996.
I have been writing my first book on clowning for the last four years. I hope to get it to the publisher this year. I started it in the winter months of 2002. I lacked very little finishing it; however, upon my return to the church, one hindrance after another hit me. My daughter got married, one surgery after another, problems with my program on the computer and problems at church. I’ll share some of this in my second book, “Called Out”.
WE HAVE MUCH TO OFFER TO YOUR FAMILY: Two children’s churches, children’s choirs, children’s crusades every other month, puppet, clown, drama, and signing ministries, boys and girl’s clubs, and children’s cheerleading. We have wonderful literature in each department. Our women’s department functions through committees and chairpersons. Each chairperson is a board member. We meet each September to plan out the years agenda whether it be a ministry fund raiser or a trip to Gatlinburg.
I HAVE FELT OUR CHURCH TO BE A MINISTRY TRAINING CENTER. We have faced many barriers in the past five years that have been most trying; however, God has never let us down.
