Testimonies
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony...” Revelation 12:11
During my teen years I began experiencing physical symptoms such as fatigue, chest pain, palpitations (irregular heartbeat), shortness of breath, leg aches, dizziness, and twitching muscles, to name a few. I went to several doctors during that period of time about some of the symptoms that I was having, but they couldn’t seem to find a cause for any of my problems. I never imagined that all of these different symptoms might be connected until I met my college roommate in the spring of 1991. She began telling about a condition that she had been diagnosed with called Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). When she told me about the symptoms of MVP, I knew that was what I had; I had finally received some explanation for all of the physical problems I had been experiencing. The next week I set up an appointment with a cardiologist to be evaluated for MVP. He conducted a stress test, did an EKG and an echocardiogram. The results of these tests confirmed my suspicions, and I was diagnosed with MVP. I continued experiencing the symptoms of my condition over the years. I also have had to be premedicated with antibiotics for any type of medical procedure due to the increased risk of infection in the heart to MVP patients.
Then one day, over 13 years after my diagnosis, everything changed. On July 28, 2004, during our church’s 29 week revival, the evangelist for that night said that he felt led of God to pray for anyone with MVP. Three of us went forward for prayer. I had heard people who received healing before talk about getting a warm feeling in their body or being slain in the spirit when they were healed. I didn’t feel anything supernatural happen when he prayed for me, but I did feel an unusual assurance in my spirit that I was healed. After service that same night I had to move some clothes racks for a yard sale that we were having the next day. They were pretty heavy, and I had to lift them above my head to carry them so they wouldn‘t drag the ground. Normally this would have caused my heart to start beating so hard that I would be able to feel and see the blood vessels in my neck and chest pulsating, but after carrying several of them I noticed that my heart was still beating normally. I knew then that God had healed me.
Over the next year I testified to my church and family that God had healed me of MVP. I was so amazed that I could actually feel my pulse for 5 to 10 minutes at a time and it would never skip a beat or do a double-beat, even after I had drank something with caffeine in it. This was amazing to me because, before I was healed, any time I would check my pulse it would be less than 10 seconds before I would feel an irregular rhythm. All the other symptoms I had been experiencing daily for at least 15 years were also gone. Although I knew that I was healed, I did not have medical confirmation.
On July 19, 2005 I went to the dentist to have my teeth cleaned. In the past I would have needed to be premedicated before having my teeth cleaned. The dental assistant asked me if I had premedicated, and I told her I had not, because I felt I had been healed of MVP. She said that I would still need to be premedicated unless I had a medical document stating that I no longer had MVP. This was a huge step of faith for me, because although I had testified to my family and church, I had not shared my testimony with anyone else, especially someone in the medical field.
That afternoon I called my family doctor and set up an appointment to be retested for MVP. He had a cardiologist to perform an echocardiogram on me. On July 26, 2005 I got back the results from the echocardiogram. The test showed that there was “no evidence of MVP”. My doctor said that there was no reason for me to ever have to be premedicated for any medical procedure again, and he faxed a copy of my test results to my dentist.
I had grown accustomed to the lifestyle altering inconveniences of MVP over the years and was not seeking for healing at the time, but He had compassion on my condition and healed me anyway. Thank you God, my great physician!!
